Chicago Sunset

Chicago Sunset Reformed

Four experienced British musicians, playing a mixture of Delta and Chicago Blues, are available NOW for gigs in the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.

CHICAGO SUNSET has come together after repeated requests for the band to perform again live.

For the past thirty years, the four band members have pursued successful musical careers and projects around the globe but now they feel it is time to go back on the road again.

Tony Williams, bassist and vocalist, who formed the Chicago Sunsets in 1978 - and was with them until they split in 1986, has since been busy touring Europe, Scandinavia, The Emirates and the UK and, making albums with Eric Bell’s Thin Lizzy and the Eric Bell Blues Band, as well as performing with Freddie King and bluesman Dick Heckstall-Smith and Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler.

Dave ‘Mad Dog’ Barnes, who joined Tony in the Chicago Sunset on slide guitar, vocals and harmonica, has worked with many top blues bands and regularly spends time in the USA studying the old blues guitar methods as well as playing and singing as a session musician.  He is also the front man with Doc K’s Blues Band.

‘Big Mal’ Hine on lead guitar has featured on many recording sessions. It seems that lots of blues players want him on guitar when they are making albums. Mal has also worked with Doc K’s.

Drummer Andy ‘Animal’ Golden makes up the four-piece.  Andy has worked with and recorded two albums with seminal guitarist Mick Green (The Pirates), has played blues with jazz virtuoso Andy Sheppard, Mike Wedgwood (Curved Air & Caravan). He’s also made several albums with Thin Lizzy’s first guitarist, Eric Bell.

After a chance meeting at a gig in London, the band decided to returned to its roots and is once more exploring the blues, recreating songs from guitar heroes like Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert Collins, Elmore James as well as playing some original material written by the band.

The Band intends touring the UK and Europe and taking the blues to new limits.

Says Tony Williams:  “We have never lost our love of the blues and as there are so many people out there who also love to hear our music, we just want to play…!”

Although working mainly within a format of blues and rock, the band leaves enough space to improvise and extemporise so that anything can happen on the night - and usually does!
